SHOOTING SCHEDULE

Shooting schedule from joecburn

We have planned our shooting schedule to fit in conveniently with our photo shoots of both props and for the digipak. This schedule will help us because we know exactly which scenes we are filming on what particular days. We also know exactly where we will shoot on each day and which members of the cast we will need.

ROUGH CUT

When editing our rough cut, we had no footage of performance apart from test footage in the studio. We improvised by substituting the performance shots with our storyboard images of the performance. This will help us when creating our next edit as we now know where the performance shots are needed and the length of time they should be playing. During the edit of the rough cut we managed to finish shooting and now have all footage available and ready to put into our next edit.
When making our rough cut, we were struggling to find the right shot to put into the edit, however when we hit the 3 minute mark we realised that there were quite a lot of shots that we hadn't included so we had to put them in an order we were unsure of.

RECCE SHOTS UPDATED

A new location will be replacing our previous idea of using The Studio at college due to unavailability of the actors and the studio itself at the specific time needed.
This new location is much more practical, as we have better access to a variety of instruments now available for the performance section of our music video. The shoot will take place on a section of decking in the garden of our selected house which belongs to one of our actors. The decking will act almost like a stage. As we are filming at night we now have access to construction lights to add a professional shadow to our band's performance. I believe the change of location to be a fantastic move in the progress and success of our music video.

MIMING TEST FOOTAGE

This test footage is from out final day of shooting. We managed to make our lead man in the band mime the whole of the song, this way this allows us to retrieve any lyrics needed from the performance to put into our final cut. We shot the footage from several different angles to add variety when coming to choose which angle we should put in our final cut as it gives us a choice.

FINAL SHOOT

The final segment to our video has been shot. The performance section has been the main focus and has been successful. The great use of construction lights has helped this shoot greatly as it was performed outside and in the dark. I believe that the change of shooting location today from The Studio to a back garden was a great choice as there was more availability to move around and get a variety of complex shots.

CHANGE OF LOCATION (CALL SHEET 4)

Due to the unavailability of The Studio that was our original choice for the shooting of the performance segments of our music video, we have had to change the shooting location for the performance.
To shoot in The Studio we would have to bring in our own instruments including: 2 Electric Guitars, an Acoustic Guitar, a Bass Guitar and a Keyboard... The Drum Kit was provided by the college. It was a nuisance trying to bring everything to college on the bus so the choice was made to perform in our friends' garden due to it being rather sizable. As our friends' dad and brother are both construction workers we have easy access to large construction lights so we can adjust the lighting to our needs. We are looking to shoot when it is the evening so the construction lights are necessary.

I believe that the new location will represent more to an audience rather than in a studio. This is beause being out in the open may represent vulnerability to their problems and that the whole world faces the problems everyday too, and the music video and the locations show the audience that they're not alone as everyone goes through it too.

WHAT IS A DIGIPAK?

A Digipak is a form of packaging for CD's used especially for singles and special album releases.
A Digipak is usually formed in the way of a book-style, also known as a 'Gatefold'... as shown in the image to the left. Inside a Digipak there is typically one or more plastic trays capable of holding one or more CD's.

Format of the Digipak
The front of the Digipak will have a form of aspect of what the artist represents, as well as giving the audience a good idea of what type of music they will be buying; this is understood through the colours and attitude shown on the cover.
The Digipak also exposes the artist in a creative fashion. All angles of the Digipak include the music video, brand image and the artist are all interwoven together.
Benefits
Digipaks benefit the album/single as well as the artist because the Digipak is a promotional package used in the music industry to grab audiences attention to buy the product. This brings awareness to the artist, therefore making them more known as they will be memorable from the package as well as their music. It is argued that if a fan buys a Digipak it establishes their loyalty to the artist.

EDITING SOFTWARE

Final Cut Express will be used to edit my music video as it's considered one of the advanced pieces of l editing software available to students and professionals. It is almost at a professional level and offers many features to help create a great project. A great advantage is that the software makes the process of editing much more efficient and quick. The software also offers countless high-quality visual filters, which allows you to add your own personality to the project while remaining very professional.

Different elements of final cut will be used such as audio waveforms. This is where we can see where the sound peaks and falls throughout the song, making it easier when positioning certain shots to specific beats.

Another main feature we are using is the lock button for the song. This means we are able to lock the song into place, restricting any mistakes such as accidentally removing parts if the song which has happened before in previous edits.

A feature we are considering using in the final edit is colour correction. Some of the narrative shots are shot in the same room however some have a light switched on, we will use colour correction to dim the shots to make them as similar to the other shots as we possibly can.

ANIMATIC

I created an Animatic by taking pictures of each separate drawing in the story board and editing them together over the sound of the song. I stuck to the original layout of the shot list i created prior to the creation of the animatic but slightly changed parts of the Animatic to suit the sound better and to fit the beats of the music more. The Animatic has helped us to plan out the editing of our real footage better, as we know which shots match which parts of the song.

NARRATIVE SHOOTING TEST

The idea was originally to edit together sections of the narrative together to play on the green screen in the background of the performance. This is a small example of what we have so far.
This edit shows me that some parts of the narrative may need to be moved around so it can fit in better with the lyrics.
The backup plan if the green screen doesn't work out is to play the narrative during the acoustic parts of the song, then to show close ups of the performance when the song picks up.
We are using shots that last no longer than a few seconds to show how snapshot memories can work from the actor's Point of View.

CALL SHEET 3 - THE STUDIO

Repeating what the Recce shots explained that The studio at college is much more difficult to access than our homes which we are planning to use for the narrative because it is constantly being booked out by students. The only way to access the studio is by putting down your name in the booking slot, if you miss your slot, you're unable to film.
Recently we have decided to change shooting location from the studio to a garden of one of our actors' houses, just to support the message we are trying to give even further.

CALL SHEET 2 - JEN'S HOUSE

Again, this house was used for the same reason I gave in call sheet 1 about our first location, about comforting the audience to make it seem like they can relate more to the people featured in the music video. The message is again echoed that if the audience can relate to people on a screen then they will realise that there is plenty of people just like them in the world who face the same day to day problem as them.

CALL SHEET 1 - JOE'S HOUSE

This call sheet shows our first shooting location that took place for the making of our music video. We used the location of an average house to emphasize the message we are trying to put across in our video, that the problems that the band members are featured to be facing, is an everyday problem that a lot of people around the world encounter everyday, The idea of a natural setting of a house may make the audience feel more at home and relaxed when viewing our video. This location lets the audience know that they are not alone with a problem they may be facing, that someone else will be experiencing the same thing.
The same message is echoed throughout all locations.

RECCE SHOTS

This house will be used for the narrative filming. Both the upstairs and downstairs will be used by two different actors to film their stories for our video. Boy 1 and Boy 3 will be using this house.
We have chosen this as one of our shooting locations due to it being accessible at anytime we may need to reshoot as this is my house, so permanent permission is given to the use of this house for our video.
We believe the interior of this house to be useful because we can shoot two different narratives at te same location.

This house will be used also for narrative filming. Again, both upstairs and downstairs will be used by two actors for two different narratives. Boy 2 and Boy 4 will be shooting here. We have chosen this house for the same reason as the other location, it is permanently accessible due to this being Joe's house.
The interior is also  very useful due to it being able to define the actors as people.

This location has been chosen for its great usability for the performance segment of our video. It stores a drum kit which is greatly useful because it means that we don't have to struggle bringing one in from home drum by drum.
When taking these pictures, I could not take a picture of the actual studio itself due to it already being used by other students also filming their music video.

The studio at college is much more difficult to access than our homes which we used for the narrative because it is constantly being booked out by students. The only way to access the studio is by putting down your name in the booking slot, if you miss your slot, you're unable to film.

UPDATED

Due to the reason above, the location has been changed to a much more suitable location which is also much more accessible.

RISK ASSESSMENT

Based on the planning of my video so far I have produced I have produced a risk assessment to identify any foremost latent risks that could arise during the filming and post-production process that could avert this project from being a success. I have analysed these risks in terms in which are responsible for them and how they can be averted. This will allow me to undoubtedly recognize what needs to be done to be successful and safe; both are important and should come above everything else.

It would be impossible to identify everything; the risks listed are the main ones that I will focus on preventing as much as I can. Furthermore the planning is still not entirely finished. As stated in the document, common sense should prevail above all else and thus the list of risks is not exhaustive.
