DIGIPAK ANALYSIS - Arctic Monkeys - My favourite Worst Nightmare

Favourite Worst Nightmare is an indie rock genre album released by Arctic Monkeys in April 2007. It is their second studio album and went straight to number 1 in the United Kingdoms album chart and won best british album in the 2008 Brit awards. This album went platinum twice, proving its success as an indie album. We felt analysing this digipak was a good idea as it is successful, very relevant to our genre and interesting in its own right.

The digipak folds out into three double sided sections. On one side is the front cover (right on the picture above) the back cover (in the center of the picture above) and an inside cover (left on the image above). The inside cover follows the same theme of chaos as the front cover does, again depicting a terraced house but this time fron the back of the house. Once again the image has a black and white effect apart from a swirl of random colours in the windows.

Inside of the digipak is even more chaotic than the outside. It shows the rooms inside the house through the walls creating the feeling that once you look inside the digipak you're looking into the house from the front and inside covers. On the right and left sections of the picture above, we see very unspecific concepts painted on the wall such as flying heads, skulls and a man dress in an east asian style. We still see very normal things that we would see in any other house, such as a table and chairs and a door, but these things are extremely scarce in this particular house. This relates to the genre of the band as the art work is very individual or 'indie' because of its unspecific colour scheme alternative because not many general pop artists would choose to use so much contrast and chaos within a digipak.

The disc shows a cartoon man drawn in the same style as the graffiti with glasses over his face that appear to be burning with black fire. Only his face is shown, floating over a plain dark green background. He seems very emotionless, like he is asleep which relates to the title as your 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' could only occur during your sleep. The black fire relates to the music genre of the band as it resembles the screeching sound of an electric guitar.
